Julia's Reine de Saba

When I share recipes from other cooks/cookbooks I will literally be posting the pictures of what resulted from thus recipe as well as pictures of the recipe from the cookbook, and my notes. Honestly if I am sharing it here though, it's good, okay? This is from Mastering the Art of French Cooking by Julia Child, which if you aren't aware if the French cooking Bible. If you don't have a copy I HIGHLY suggest you get it asap...Christmas gift maybe?  It is full of amazing recipes that have never let me down, and some odds ones that I will gladly tell you I will never try (aspics). Generally speaking though it's a wonderful cookbook that everyone who enjoys cooking needs in their kitchen.

Here is Julia's Reine de Saba, or chocolate almond cake. In the original recipe she uses almond extract, I didn't as I hate almond extract, so I used good ol' vanilla extract. ALWAYS use only pure vanilla extract, not imitation. No place for that ever. I also didn't ice this cake or decorate it. I simply dusted powdered sugar on it, and it was perfect. My little family of 2 adults, 1 toddler and an infant ate it in 24 hours.

Definitely ice and decorate, and use almond extract if you wish! That is the beauty of cooking and baking, you can change things to suit your tastes! This cake should be slightly underdone and moist.

If you make it let me know!

Bon Appetit!
